    3. Tapestry or darning needle
    4. A dash of patience and a sprinkle of cozy vibes

    Abbreviations:

    1. HDCSS: Half Double Crochet Slip Stitch
    2. SS: Slip Stitch
    3. BLO: Back Loop Only
    4. SC: Single Crochet

    Phrases and Stitches to Know:

    Phrases:

    1. Foundation Chain: The base of your crochet project, made by making a slip knot and making a chain (grabbing yarn with hook and pulling through the loop currently on the hook).
    2. Turn Your Work: Flip the piece to continue stitching in the opposite direction. (Check this tip out for perfectly straight edges! This trick makes you see likely to lose stitches, making your crochet projects smoother and more even along the sides!) I recommend turning your work away from you, where the working yarn (the yarn you’re using to make each stitch) is on the opposite side of your project. 3. Work All the Way Down: Continue crocheting across the entire row, repeating the rows instructions.
    4. Leave a Long Tail: Keep extra yarn at the end for sewing.
    5. Zig Zag Closure: A technique to close the top of the beanie by weaving yarn through the stitches, then pulling tight once you’ve made it back to the beginning.

    Stitches:

      1. Half double crochet stitch: wrap yarn around your hook before inserting it into the next stitch. Grab the yarn with the hook from the other side and pull through the hole. you should have three loops on the hook. Grab the yarn with the hook and pull through all three loops at once.
      2. slip stitch: insert hook into your stitch, grab the yarn and pull it through. You should have two loops on your hook. Using the first loop on your hook, pull the loop through the loop CLOSEST to the end of your hook. This makes a slip stitch and is used to close and finish off a project in most cases.
      3. Single crochet: insert hook in to previous stitch, grab working yarn with hook, and pull back through. You should have two loops on your hook. Grab the working yarn and pull through both loops.
      4. Stacked Stitch/Stacked Single Crochet: Turn your work and sc in to the top of the last stitch. Stack the stitch by working an additional sc into the front loop of the sc you just completed. Watch the video tutorial here.
